In reply to Alan Ng. If you want to address sebum build up inside pores, you can use a beta hydroxy acid such as salycilic acid. It is more lipid soluble than AHAs and work on pores better but not peel the skin. But AHAs (glycolic, TCA) can also help by peeling away surface epidermal cells.

The proper term for what people are describing is a keratin plug (whitehead) which may be oxidized (blackhead).
Everyone should be wary of new terms like these popping up because most of the time it is just another way to sell something or make beauty articles about.

Thank you so much for your post! I’ve noticed my sebaceous filaments were gone when I use Neutrogena’s Fresh Foaming Cleanser and guess what, decyl glucoside is the 4th ingredient! I’m currently using CeraVe’s Foaming Facial Cleanser and it works to remove my sebaceous filaments as well, but it doesn’t contain disodium laureth sulfosuccinate or decyl glucoside. I guess there could be more surfactants that work? 🙂
